The Champagny gondola rises slowly at first out of Champagny (1250m) before climbing a steep face to the top station (around 2000m). The ride is short and fast and makes Champagny an attractive place to stay due to the speed at which you can access the main area. Runs back down to the village are graded red (Les Bois and Mont de la Guerre), so beginner riders will likely find themselves taking the lift up and back – as is the case later in the season when these lower-level, South-facing runs tend to be the first to close in the whole area. The gondola cabins were replaced for season 2018/19, making the journey more comfortable – while views over Trois Vallées and the Pralognan-la-Vanoise valley from the lift are dramatic.
